Coast:
(1185 islands)
Well-indented, the coast smells of inebriating wild Mediterranean
herbs, such as rosemary, laurel,
immortelle, Spanish broom, blended with scents
of garden-sage, mint wild thyme, and other aromatic herbs
growing on nearby slopes.
The sea, with its atavistic scents of salt and algae, the
rippling of waves caressing the shore intersected with pristine
beaches and precipitous cliffs, the transparent blue reflects
the sunbeams like a jewel. Thousands of islands and islets,
secluded coves and bays, green pinewoods seem like hurling
towards that miraculous blue.
Winds:
You shouldn't underestimate the winds, especially bora, (Cro:
bura), that is north wind, very strong. Other wind
are "milder", but their force differs along the
northern and southern coast. For instance, landward breeze
(Cro: maestral), which is pleasant for sailing. Sirocco
is more predictable wind and it is always possible to find
shelter in time, in one of many well-protected bays and coves.
Anyway, the winds are not stronger then 25 knots
from 01.04. - 01.11. However, there are several dozens of
marinas and they are best places for anchorage and protection.
As they are spread out evenly along the coast, sometimes only
a few hours away from each other, they give a feeling of much-needed
safety as well as the possibility of meeting other sea lovers
arriving from all parts of world. |
